The Role & Opportunity

A rare opportunity to lead a UK-based manufacturing company with a successful track record, strong growth and profitability. As Managing Director, you will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational efficiency, and financial performance of Alpen Signs.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will act as the driving force behind the company’s vision and mission, ensuring sustainable growth and operational excellence. 

The owner of the Company is looking to recruit a Managing Director who has experience in sales and of growing operations and someone that is up for a fresh challenge. We are looking for a strong leader with a track record in senior leadership roles, experience of managing a business successfully through growth, operationally-biased, paired with business acumen and the ability to develop and execute effective business strategies.

The ideal candidate will be a natural leader with excellent communication skills, who can create a culture of excellence and innovation and manage cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience of working in sales with a strong commercial acumen, and customer 
orientated, flexible and fast paced manufacturing business
• Experience with developing and implementing change management strategies and
plans that maximise employee adoption and usage of required changes. These
responsibilities also include plans and efforts to anticipate and minimise resistant
behaviours from employees and stakeholders who are impacted by the changes.
• A proven track record in improving systems, efficiencies and culture.
• Experience working in an entrepreneurial private business, rather than just a solely
‘large PLC’ career.

Operational Management 
• Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring the company runs efficiently and effectively
• Foster a high-performing organisational culture focused on results, accountability, and
collaboration
• Drive new product and technology development
• Encouraging the R&D of the business in an enthusiastic and controlled way.

Financial Oversight 
• Ensure robust financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
• Overseeing and continuously improving the financial performance and profitability of
the company
• Drive profitability and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality standards
• Deliver the growth and profitability targets
• Manage operational costs by minimising down time, optimising production layouts and engineering requirements
• Drive margin improvements by better pricing and cost control.

Stakeholder Engagement 
• Represent the company to stakeholders, including clients, investors, and regulatory
bodies
• Maintain strong relationships with key partners and foster new business opportunities.
• Developing and building key customer relationships
• Encourage the right mix of customers, from established large brands to brands that
are in growth mode
• Ensure excellent customer satisfaction, including senior level client engagement.

Team Development 
• Lead, mentor, and inspire the senior management team and the wider workforce
• Drive talent development initiatives and ensure alignment with organisational goals
• Ensure that supply chain, operations, technical, logistics, commercial and financial are aligned in their targets
• Deliver and demonstrate measured continuous process improvements across all
functions
• Nurture relationships with Employees, Managers and Directors, to create a healthy
working environment, fostering collaboration, and increasing productivity
• Facilitate innovation to propelling change.

Compliance & Governance 
• Ensure the company adheres to all legal, regulatory, and corporate governance
requirements
• Report regularly to the Board on organisational performance and key initiatives
• Ensure that the business is legally compliant in all areas, particularly Health and Safety
• Implement and drive HR policies and procedures alongside Management, filtered
throughout the wider business.

Skills and Qualifications required

Background, Expertise & Attributes
• Proven experience as a Managing Director, CEO, or senior executive in a comparable industry
• Strong track record of driving business growth and achieving financial targets
• Previous experience driving/leading a growing and successful small to medium-sized
business at Director level
• Exceptional leadership, interpersonal skills and an active listener
• Strong leadership qualities supported by excellent communication skills and an ability
to motivate others at all levels of the company
• Proven experience working in sales, with strong commercial acumen
• Self-motivated and results driven
• Comprehensive knowledge of corporate governance, technical, strategic planning,
engineering and operational management
• Excellent commercial acumen
• Tough when the need arises
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Financially astute
• Sound budgeting skills
• Proactive, analytical and a good problem solver
• Strong work ethic, highly organised and computer literate
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field (MBA
preferred).

Renumeration
• Competitive and commensurate with experience – up to £75,000
• Company car (obviously electric to be tax efficient)
