Job Overview

Fire Cadets is a nationally recognised long-term educational programme, open to young people between the ages of 13 and 17. Fire Cadets learn real-life firefighting skills, First Aid, as well as various life skills such as team building, problem-solving, and communication. They also become service ambassadors, supporting their units at community engagement events, such as open days and charitable events. Fire Cadets are given the knowledge to safely educate others about Fire Safety and the consequences of anti-social behaviour. We currently run Fire Cadets one evening per week at two of our fire stations, Western (New Parks) and Coalville, with a unit being re-introduced to Central Station in the coming months. These units are delivered by both our Firefighters and Volunteer Cadet Leaders. We therefore need volunteers from the public who would love to gain experience in the Fire Service and help us successfully lead the Fire Cadets! It’s important to note that individuals don’t need Fire Service experience to volunteer with the Cadets – we want people who have different skills and expertise. Individuals who are keen to be a Volunteer Cadet Leader should express their interest by emailing youth.mailbox@leics-fire.gov.uk.
