Job Overview

Base location: Home Based with travel to clinical settings and client homes in Leicester and Leicestershire

Contract: Temporary contract up to 31st December 2024 with possible 12 month extension

Citizens Advice Leicestershire is an independent and local not for profit organisation, providing accessible and high quality information, advice and education to anyone who needs it. Last year we supported 31,715 people across Leicester and Leicestershire, securing circa £14,109,952 in maximised income for our citizens. We take a partnership approach to deliver our services, working with local government, National Citizens Advice and local VCSE organisations.

About the role:
We’re looking for a dedicated individual to join our Macmillan Welfare Benefits Advice Team. You’ll work closely with people affected by cancer, providing compassionate advice on welfare benefits.

The main purpose of the role is:

Offer guidance and support on welfare benefits via phone, letter, online meetings, and in-person visits (when necessary).
Assist clients in making well-informed choices about their benefits.
Advocate for clients, contacting services and negotiating on their behalf to maximise their income.
Carefully maintain records to ensure seamless service for our clients.

About You:
You’re someone who understands the challenges faced by people with cancer. You’re patient, kind, and an excellent listener. Your goal is to empower clients and help them navigate a complex system.

To be successful in this role, you will:

Communicate clearly and sensitively, both in writing and speaking.
Build positive working relationships.
Manage your workload effectively, even under pressure.
Work well within a team while also taking initiative.
