Job Overview
The main responsibilities of the senior care assistant are:
To be responsible for the wellbeing of all our residents, within the care home, ensuring that their physical, emotional and social needs are being met. Whilst helping to achieve independence and choices with a safe environment, under the guidance and supervision of the manager and team leader.
Level of responsibility: Routine duties within the home and the overseeing of junior staff. Ensuring tasks allocated are completed by the relevant person before the end of your shift.
TASKS:
• Assist in delivering a high standard of care to residents, promoting their equality and dignity at all times.
• Ensure that the highest quality of care is maintained at all times and to consistently display a courteous and helpful manner.
• Assist with residents’ personal hygiene, mobility, physical comfort, eating and drinking, whilst observing and reporting specific changes.
• Oversee the safe administration of medication. Keeping regular checks on MAR Sheets and Medication levels.
• Record
• Take residents blood sugars and record in their notes
• Observe and report changes in resident’s conditions to the manager and team leader.
• Obtain urine, stool specimens when required.
• Promote effective communication within the Home.
• Contribute appropriately to effective communication with residents, significant others and members of the care team and to promote good working relationships within the team.
• Supervise, offer guidance and support to junior members of staff. To promote anti-discriminatory practice and to ensure continuous personal development through the utilization of regular supervision, annual appraisal and training where appropriate.
• Assist in the maintenance of home cleanliness.
• Assist in the maintenance of stock levels.
• Enter information in resident’s file notes
• Give formal verbal and/or written hand-over of resident care.
• Escort residents to and from relevant appointments/ book the mini bus or transport.
• Make daily checks to the senior diary and communication book for residents needs and information
• Assist residents when visited by G.P’s or other professionals and record in daily notes.
• Assist and liaise with the district nurses and family members if necessary when information is to be disclosed.
• Prepare and review Care Plans
• Undertake risk assessments
• Assist residents in recreational and social activities (Bingo, Outings entertainment etc.
• Each Senior will be given a delegated task to complete on a monthly basis, the senior will have a care assistant to assist with this task.
• Ensure all colleagues are wearing correct uniform.
• Ensure Colleagues are following the infection control policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Keep up-to-date with developments and changes in the Home.
Adhere to Policies and Procedures.
Carry out duties with due regard to the Equal Opportunities Policy.
Carry out responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
It is the personal responsibility of all staff to act in accordance with the Care Act 2015 and Safe Guarding of Vulnerable Adults (Sova).
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
• To discuss one’s own development needs with your manager, in order to consistently achieve best practice and continuously improve personal performance.
• To attend relevant study days/courses as agreed by the Manager and in accordance with one’s personal development plan.
• Develop one’s own knowledge by meeting targets agreed with the manager within the desired timeframe.
• Participate in staff meetings and initiatives, providing the necessary contribution for effective team working.
Staff should remember the Manager has the right to ask for any other reasonable duties to be completed alongside the above.
All staff should understand the overall objectives of the home, namely that residents will be encouraged to maintain their independence and are encouraged to make their choices in their care.
Skills and Qualifications required
NVQ Level 2 and 3 / or working towards level 3.
• Good communication skills
• To be able to work as a team or on own initiative
• To be able to follow instruction
Hours per week
12 hours shifts 6am – 6pm / 7am – 7pm 16 – 36 hour contracts per week
