Job Overview
Mosaic 1898 Direct Payments Support Service are assisting a disabled young man for a personal assistant for 6 hours of support on weekends, to enable the young person to lead an independent lifestyle within the community. The 6 hours may be split across both Saturday and Sunday.
The PA should understand their role to assist with the self-defined needs of the young person, and feel confident to ask what these needs are, and listen to requests and follow directions given.
Duties:
To assist in all areas of personal and social and day to day activities as required.
· Support with accessing social activities – for example, swimming, going to Hindu Temple, local parks and shopping.
· Driving the person to places in the community, loading/folding his manual wheelchair in /out of car. Pushing the young person in their wheelchair.
· Personal care is generally not required – but you may have to assist him to use the toilet when out in the community
· You will work as a pair with an experienced PA to provide 2:1 support
This role does not currently support sponsorship applications as the post does not meet the current Home Office criteria.

Skills and Qualifications required
YOU MUST HAVE A FULL UK DRIVER LICENSE AND ACCESS TO YOUR OWN CAR. YOU WILL HAVE TO DRIVE AS PART OF THE JOB.
The PA should:
meet the job’s physical requirements (eg. moving & handling) ·
Be able to work as part of a team, these shifts would be working alongside another PA. ·
Arrive at the required times ready to work.
Contact immediately if going to be more than 15 minutes late. ·
Establish close working relationship.
If problems arise, discuss & resolve immediately. · Maintain confidentiality, respect privacy of employer.
Requires driver access to their with own car with business insurance. The manual wheelchair will fold and fits most car boots. The family will pay fuel expenses privately for any trips done during the shift.
The PA’s Attitude:
Appreciate stresses & strains of parent/carer employer and young person, and the effect this can have on the acceptance of help.
Understand that the preservation of dignity & independence is important.
Respect the possessions & equipment in the employer’s home. ¨
Use of the telephone, television, radio etc should only be with employer’s prior consent.
Any questions regarding tasks should be clarified before starting. ¨
Duties/hours of work required may vary according to requirements. ¨
Be understanding of communication differences and non-verbal communication. Learning the Job Daily tasks will be learnt and familiarised through PA & employer working together. You will work in a pair with an experienced PA who is familiar with the young persons needs.
