Job Overview
Reporting Structure
The Graduate Mechanical Engineer will report to the Senior Mechanical Engineer or Project/Business Director. They will work closely with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers within the project team, receiving technical guidance and support from senior engineering staff associated with the project.
Working Arrangements
This is an office-based role with flexible working arrangements. The company operates a 9-day fortnight working pattern, supporting work-life balance while maintaining strong collaboration within project teams.
Job Summary
The Graduate Mechanical Engineer will support Mechanical Engineers across a range of projects, contributing to mechanical design activities under the supervision and direction of senior team members. The role includes delivering design outputs, reporting workload progress, and coordinating priorities with the design lead.
The post holder will act as a Graduate Design Engineer, assisting wider project teams and contributing to a collaborative and efficient design environment. This includes supporting resource planning discussions, attending design team meetings, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity in both individual and team outputs.
A key aspect of the role is promoting a proactive, “can-do” culture and helping embed this approach across all MEP design activities.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in delivering mechanical design work across multiple projects with support from senior engineers.
· Produce detailed mechanical designs with appropriate guidance and review.
· Carry out calculations to support the design of domestic services, ventilation, heating, and cooling systems.
· Assist in coordinating mechanical designs with electrical engineering disciplines.
· Contribute to design team meetings and provide input on project progress; occasional joint attendance with senior engineers may be required for development purposes.
· Manage personal workload with support from project engineers, ensuring alignment with agreed deadlines and client programmes.
· Continuously seek improvements in efficiency, quality, and productivity of design work.
· Adopt up-to-date industry practices and demonstrate innovation in engineering solutions.
· Provide input data and criteria to sustainability engineers for modelling purposes.
· Take responsibility for personal and professional development with guidance from senior team members.
· Show interest in developing knowledge across other engineering disciplines.
· Self-check work prior to submission to minimise errors and support QA processes.

Skills and Qualifications required
Technical Skills & Knowledge
· Basic understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, British Standards, BSRIA documents, and other relevant building services design guidance.
· Awareness of the purpose and application of key industry documents, even if full expertise is still developing.
· Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Hevacomp (or equivalent design software).
Professional Development
· Minimum requirement of Graduate or Affiliate membership status, with progression towards CIBSE Member grade encouraged over time.
· Strong commitment to ongoing professional development and learning within mechanical engineering and related disciplines.
Hours per week
9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday, 9 day per fortnight working pattern.
