Do you have the passion and drive to aspire to work in Homelessness whilst also developing your overall knowledge and expand on qualifications? Then join our fantastic team as an apprentice working towards achieving a recognised Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Homelessness Officer Apprentice.
Within this service, we provide effective, professional, and customer-friendly service on behalf of the council including offering a full range of advice on housing options and a comprehensive homelessness prevention service. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and develop skills that help provide an effective service to support individuals and families who are homeless, and in temporary accommodation, to enable them to transition into settled and sustainable accommodation.

This post will be across two teams, the Homelessness Prevention Team and the Transitions Team. You’ll have the opportunity to gain experience in both service areas and learn about the pivotal role they play.

This is a full time, fixed term position working 37 hours per week (for 2 years). You’ll be required to work from various council offices including York House, Dawn Centre and City Hall. Typical working hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00am-5pm.
What you’ll be doing
Within this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside frontline staff to help develop and gain the experience required to achieve your Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Within the Homelessness Prevention Team, you’ll work alongside Homelessness Prevention Officers to retain current accommodation and/or by the provision of another housing resolution. You’ll also work with individuals who are facing the prospect of homelessness, to review, update and develop personalised housing plans with the intention of these individuals being able to retain accommodation or arrange temporary accommodation until their housing needs are met.[PS1] You’ll assist Homelessness Prevention officers during face to face and over the phone assessments.
Within the Transitions Team, you’ll be working alongside the Transitions Worker to deliver housing related support to homeless singles, childless couples and families to enable them to transition into more settled accommodation using a holistic approach. This support will be delivered face-to-face in a variety of settings and over the telephone.

Some of our customers can present with complex and challenging issues. You’ll work closely with other professional services, such as: Primary health care teams including mental health, police and probation services, social services both children’s’ and adult teams, a range of charitable and voluntary organisations who work closely with the homeless community. You’ll also work closely with other LCC housing teams to facilitate successful and sustainable accommodation for your customers.
