Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony – FAQs

When and where is the ceremony?

The ceremony is on Friday 21 June 2024 from 3pm - 4.30pm at De Montfort Hall, Leicester. (The venue will open at 1.00pm)

Why is this event happening?

This event is to celebrate the successes and raise the profile of apprentices. Having a graduation shows that a degree level apprenticeship qualification carries the same esteem as a university undergraduate degree.

What qualification do I need to take part?

You will need an intermediate, advanced, higher or degree level apprenticeship qualification, awarded by 21 June 2024. 

Do I have to live in Leicester?

The ceremony is open to anybody with one of the above qualifications, who lives or works in Leicester or Leicestershire, or who did their qualification with a local training provider.

How much will it cost to take part?

The cost to graduands (prospective graduates) is £30 – This covers the cost of a ticket, hire of cap and gown and a certificate. You’ll be able to order professional photographs for an additional charge.

When does registration close?

You can register until midnight on Sunday 9 June 2024.

Can I bring friends and family to the ceremony?

Absolutely! This is a celebration, and your family, friends and colleagues are invited to the ceremony.

Can I bring children to the event?

Yes, children are welcome but they must be accompanied by an adult and unfortunately will not be able to sit with the graduands during the ceremony. We suggest you book seats for children aged 2-16 with your adult guests. Please sit under 2s on a knee.

Where do I book tickets for friends, family and colleagues?

Your guests can purchase tickets online on the De Montfort Hall ticket website or by phoning the box office on 0116 233 3111.

How much are guest tickets?

Adult guest tickets cost £15 (Children under 16 are free but they must be accompanied by a ticketed adult).

Do children need tickets?

Yes, tickets are free for children under 16, but you must purchase your guest tickets by calling the box office on 0116 233 3111 for the children in your group to be allocated a seat.

I have a disability which may affect my participation in the event

There will be an opportunity to note your requirements when you register. This could be anything from access to the building and stage, large print documents, to signing for the hearing impaired. If you have any specific queries, please contact us on 0116 454 2952

Is De Montfort Hall fully accessible for disabled guests?

Yes, the public areas and auditorium at De Montfort Hall are fully accessible. Find out more on the De Montfort Hall ticket website. Please let us know about any assistance you or your party will need when booking your ticket(s) and we will do our best to accommodate you.

How do I book a place for a wheelchair user or for a carer?

Please inform the box office at the time of booking seats if a member of your party is a wheelchair user or needs a carer to accompany them.

Where can I park?

If arriving by car, please allow enough time to park before the start of the ceremony as the roads around the hall can get very busy. The closest available public car park is the Victoria Park public pay and display, off Granville Road LE1 7RU.

Will there be photographers at the event?

The event will be filmed and photographed. There will be coverage of the event on social media: #hubgraduation
There will also be photographers from the Employment Hub, Leicester City Council, and local press taking pictures for future promotional activity.

Marston Events will be providing an official photography service for graduates and these packages will be available to purchase on the day or to order online. Credit cards will be accepted.

How is the event funded?

This event has been made possible with sponsorship from Leicester City Council as well as training providers and employers from across Leicestershire.

What is the difference between a graduand and a graduate?

You are a graduand before you graduate and a graduate after the ceremony when your certificate is awarded.

Where can I find out more about the event?

Before the event each graduand will receive an event guide with details of what to do on the day, how to register, how to get photographs taken, how to collect robes, and how the ceremony will work.
