Job Overview

This role is a mixture of set weekly sessions and covering other members of staff when they are on leave. All sessions are working with adults with learning disabilities in small groups or on a 1:1 basis on site at Values' centre. Successful applicants will be available 8.45am-4.15pm Monday to Friday plus occasional evenings and weekends. There is a potential for overtime and increasing the hours per contract over time.

Main Tasks:

· To support people with learning disabilities to participate in social and leisure activities, learning and volunteering. See www.valonline.org.uk/values for the sessions we do.

· To deliver the VALUES service in a person centered way. To support people with learning disabilities to make real choices in what activities they participate in. This could involve volunteering, paid employment or other activities the individual chooses. To provide personal care when required.

· To enable individuals to become as independent as possible in their lives.

· To support the VALUES project to promote the positive contribution people with learning disabilities can make within the community.

· To ensure the safety of people with learning disabilities at all times; contributing and adhering to risk assessments and following Voluntary Action LeicesterShire’s health and safety policies and procedures.

· To be able to push a wheelchair and assist with personal care and medication where needed.

· To be able work independently and pay attention to detail. You will need to look up the information you need on our system before your shift begins and complete digital records at the end of each shift.

Skills and Experiences

Ability to co-ordinate and work with a group of individuals with learning disabilities (essential)

Experience of working in a learning disability setting (essential)

Good communication skills, especially with people with learning disabilities (essential)

Ability to work closely with colleagues in the local authority and in charities in which volunteers are involved (desirable)

Experience of working with parents and carers (desirable)

Appreciation of issues affecting people with a learning disability (essential)

Ability to pay attention to detail on such matters as record keeping, health and safety etc (essential)

Experience of a community language (desirable)

Motivation and Attitude:
Ability to relate to a wide variety of people particularly people with learning disabilities (essential)

Ability to empower people with a learning disability (essential)

Commitment to running a confidential service (essential)

Experience of being a creative team member (desirable)

Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines (essential)
