The role is to start Autumn term 2025
The post is permanent, 37.5 hours per week, term time plus some additional paid hours to be worked in the school holidays

Main duties:
1.
To lead, motivate and inspire the team to deliver outstanding early years education and care.
2.
To take responsibility for drawing up long-term, medium-term and sessional curriculum plans that take into account the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and to monitor the effectiveness of the setting’s curriculum; this may include working with external professionals.
3.
To be responsible for providing a high quality of education and learning, ensuring that staff are properly deployed, and to offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children attending the setting.
4.
To have an appropriate action plan in place that enables the setting to achieve and maintain a minimum ‘Good’ Ofsted rating at the next inspection.
5.
To take responsibility for ensuring that performance management systems are in place and followed, e.g. induction, probation, supervision, team meetings and appraisals.
6.
To ensure that staff are appropriately supported to carry out their role effectively.
7.
To oversee and supervise the daily programme of activities and events.
8.
To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping so that children’s progress and achievements are effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures.
9.
To organise the key person system and to effectively supervise staff; to be responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching; to participate in staff appraisals and to identify in-service training needs.
10.
To ensure that the welfare and safety of children is promoted within the setting and that any child protection concerns are always acted upon appropriately and immediately.
11.
To fulfil the role of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) for the setting and liase with the director with responsibility for safeguarding and child protection as appropriate.
12.
To ensure records are properly maintained and updated, e.g. the daily attendance register, accident and incident records.
13.
To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the setting and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
14.
To ensure that Hopscotch Playgroup CIC is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practiced.
15.
To liaise with the Board of Directors, Ofsted services and other professionals as necessary, ensuring that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented, and to provide reports as required.
16.
To ensure payroll systems are in place and operate the monthly pay roll, ensuring staff are paid and monthly statutory reports to HMRC etc. are filed.

To manage the petty cash system
18.
To manage the systems for income collection and invoicing by generating invoices, monitoring and reconciling payments and sending receipts.
19.
To maintain full confidentiality for any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
20.
To ensure the implementation of any recommendations made following regulatory inspections.
21.
To contribute to and implement all the setting’s policies and procedures.
22.
To ensure that children attending the setting receive a balanced and healthy diet.
23.
To attend any conferences, training events or meetings, as agreed by the Board of Directors and to keep up to date with current good practice.
24.
To ensure that accurate and up-to-date record keeping systems are in place, e.g. children’s records of progress and any behavioural and development reports, any safeguarding issues, health and safety issues, notes taken at staff supervision meetings, details of targets set and of any performance concerns discussed.
25.
To liaise with the church hall administrator regarding maintenance issues, day to day operations and the safety and suitability of the premises.
26.
To ensure that the setting complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulation and that staff receive appropriate training and guidance.
27.
To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Board of Directors in accordance with the setting’s business plan and objectives.


Skills and Qualifications required

1.
At least two years’ proven experience of working in an early years care and education setting, or at least two years’ other suitable experience.
2.
Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent, and a commitment to continuing professional development.
3.
EYFS 2024 requirement: Employed or internal job changes on or after 4 January 2024 must hold a level 2 Maths qualification or must achieve one within 2 years of starting in the position.

Desirable criteria:
1.
Level 5 or above early years education and childcare qualification or degree.
2.
Experience of leadership and management in the early years.
