At Abberdale House we expect employees to provide and deliver the highest standards of care and services to our residents.

The main responsibilities of the care assistant are:

To be responsible for the well-being of all residents within the home, ensuring that their physical, emotional and social needs are met. Whilst helping them to achieve independence and choices within a safe environment under the guidance and supervision of the home manager, team leader and senior care staff.

TASKS:

• To act as a key worker for a number of residents
• To assist residents in personal care including, washing, bathing, dressing and toileting needs
• To complete any cleaning/laundry duties where necessary and record in the appropriate place
• To administer medication if suitably trained and competent, this is at the managers discretion
• To report any accidents/incidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the senior in charge and record in the appropriate place
• To record in daily notes for each resident a factual legible record of the shift which is timed dated and signed. This should be done on every shift if allocated to you by a senior member of staff
• To ensure that the residents are socially presentable in appearance at all times.
• To ensure the residents have any aids e.g. Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles etc fitted and in working order
• To ensure that all charts and records are factual, legible and documented throughout the day
• To use the task sheets in use and complete tasks to the best of their ability and to abide by the decision of the senior when tasks have been allocated
• To ensure that the floor remains covered and that the residents are safe at all times
• To leave the home in a clean, tidy and safe condition



• All tasks that have not been completed must be passed over the following shift by verbal communication or by use of the handover sheet or communication book
• Staff a have a duty to report information to ensure the smooth running of the home and to protect the residents welfare.
• All wheelchairs that have been used to assist residents are to either be returned to the correct residents room or to be stored (no more than 4) under the stairs for ease of access
• To assist in the maintenance of a safe working environment by adhering to the Health and Safety policies and procedures of Abberdale House
• To Whistle blow if bad practice or harm to a resident is observed
• To adhere to the uniform policy and ensure correct footwear and uniform is worn at all times. Staff should wear flat black fully enclosed shoes and black trousers and the tabard provided
• To act in a professional manner at all times
• To report to the senior any concerns relating to the condition of a resident
• To respect the rights of the residents including privacy and dignity
• To attend all mandatory training to have up-to-date knowledge of current legislation and law
• To attend staff and other meetings as appropriate
• To follow residents individual care plan to ensure their documented needs are met

Skills and Qualifications required

NVQ 2 Adult Care or working towards

Hours per week

36 Hours/week 12 Hour Shifts - 6pm -6am on a rota basis Alternate weekends
