This is a fixed term trainee role for 12 months. The role will assist the Visual Arts Officer in the day-to-day delivery of the exhibitions programme, working with a range of disabled and non-disabled artists. This will include the opportunity to curate an exhibition and work with the University Art Collection. The post is designed as an opportunity to gain experience in gallery work through a series of on-the-job training opportunities including curating, marketing, interpretation and access. Providing assistance to the Visual Arts Officer Primarily focus will be on the coordination of the exhibition programme. This will include the following • Assisting with travel and insurance arrangements. • Basic record keeping (risk assessments, condition reports) • Hands-on assistance with exhibition installations • Assisting with responding to enquiries from artists and members of the public, maintaining and updating a database of contacts • Maintaining basic records of visitor numbers and audience profile • Prepare exhibition manuals for invigilators and volunteers and support exhibition briefings with front of house Exhibition interpretation and access • Contribute to the development of supporting materials for the exhibition • Assist with the development and delivery of gallery events • Contribute to making the exhibitions more accessible especially to young people and families, students and specific disabled groups Gallery Learning • Assist the learning and outreach team in our work e.g. guided tours of the exhibition, supporting Next Gen Creatives activity • Assist the Planning and commercial Operations Managers to explore connections between the exhibitions and creative learning programmes Audience development and marketing • Assist in the preparation of marketing materials such as web-based promotional and educational materials. • Assist in the preparation of private view events, tours and VIP events • Assisting in the preparation of student facing events such as tours, induction events, and special activities in the galleries for particular clubs and societies • Help capture data about visitor numbers and participation.
• A degree in a related area of study or alternatively some prior broadly related experience • Experienced in broad range of computer skills • Knowledge and interest in contemporary art • Commitment and knowledge relating to disability

Part Time (0.6FTE, 21 hours per week), Fixed Term for 12 months
